We had our contractor install new flooring at the store, which required all the stock and fixtures in that particular area to be moved elsewhere, and then back again. We did have help from some friends with the moving and we are VERY grateful for that. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We had the LVP installed right over the tongue & groove flooring Dad installed nearly 36 years ago, so the squeaks that existed are still there!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">One weekend they did one half of the sales floor, and the next weekend the other half. We had them work weekends so we didn't have to close the store to have it done. Another weekend we had to move a fair amount of stock and fixtures so they could do some repairs to the walls that were hidden by built-in cupboards Dad had made. We had the cupboards removed so the flooring could extend all the way to the outer walls. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now we are in the process of getting some new fixtures to replace those built-ins that had to be destroyed in order to move them. Dad sure built them solid! It is a work in progress that may take another month or so to get to where we want it to be. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdL6QGXO70PH6IHODgPtbmIQQPZij7XLxqGIXJusk3pN40Rpnehf1NLgNeetwSAUTkzyTzzU49mZsOhwSp1TKDU7HyFfteSlrfBKqyD-XcnX22mdTVcEBhvpzhMx7mwCG6u8HCcXLNpeorKYxjVN-X9lQ5jYsWe7SXYUCv2_3qyjq3GfyfA00pXa8OWS4/s1435/FB_IMG_1707221273093.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1435" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdL6QGXO70PH6IHODgPtbmIQQPZij7XLxqGIXJusk3pN40Rpnehf1NLgNeetwSAUTkzyTzzU49mZsOhwSp1TKDU7HyFfteSlrfBKqyD-XcnX22mdTVcEBhvpzhMx7mwCG6u8HCcXLNpeorKYxjVN-X9lQ5jYsWe7SXYUCv2_3qyjq3GfyfA00pXa8OWS4/s320/FB_IMG_1707221273093.jpg" width="241" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhazV62NbICjWxH3Q2hWUwPAQdnTnwQOVVGNDTEzuKOjbT0NWFFNPn6gxKBFlSfrdNpMLByGOm6DYiBQWZcjhYrRm21XLcr-szgtf0qksYRxTsxXpNTlQ0o2ZE9rFhsGDCTBNgcVn-2Et80WH77pnmLO2wlod_8DxLjskYhYqNW8n6xUcLTxQQ8K68n_VA/s1435/FB_IMG_1707221268783.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1435" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhazV62NbICjWxH3Q2hWUwPAQdnTnwQOVVGNDTEzuKOjbT0NWFFNPn6gxKBFlSfrdNpMLByGOm6DYiBQWZcjhYrRm21XLcr-szgtf0qksYRxTsxXpNTlQ0o2ZE9rFhsGDCTBNgcVn-2Et80WH77pnmLO2wlod_8DxLjskYhYqNW8n6xUcLTxQQ8K68n_VA/s320/FB_IMG_1707221268783.jpg" width="241" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2zORQFZ2cTc-eJDWod-SjlSonldjxXF2OtgEJnciSIKsxvztyu2DU4J8_ltVfMouF3WB2oGNr8eNzb0fU4t-zNh0_wmB8JN6C83OcAqi9zRUjLLSw_jnwL1Ln9I4yrAmQfodgtZyk8h8uJHUGn3Zds1BoYf-W2-ivKoc6KhZl6Jwyd00IHc3pEbVPJfQ/s1435/FB_IMG_1707221264460.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1435" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2zORQFZ2cTc-eJDWod-SjlSonldjxXF2OtgEJnciSIKsxvztyu2DU4J8_ltVfMouF3WB2oGNr8eNzb0fU4t-zNh0_wmB8JN6C83OcAqi9zRUjLLSw_jnwL1Ln9I4yrAmQfodgtZyk8h8uJHUGn3Zds1BoYf-W2-ivKoc6KhZl6Jwyd00IHc3pEbVPJfQ/s320/FB_IMG_1707221264460.jpg" width="241" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDEA_-wWsYoPFGNaN7TCW7SwCxWYCWHKj1lHwZ4iUOuKyzD5OUubGxxmj4G4V3QrSX7SIxoBq3kPVyScshF4graL5wtCKbhuG2dZ7P0TX9y9ZbC6N-ejF1DtGRwPcH9AMWp6BIu3_JzopwJs2lkCQWcTPQd2ehXj-SW1chG8HnGxjrCgPZBnFF5hfSBEg/s1435/FB_IMG_1707221260038.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1435" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDEA_-wWsYoPFGNaN7TCW7SwCxWYCWHKj1lHwZ4iUOuKyzD5OUubGxxmj4G4V3QrSX7SIxoBq3kPVyScshF4graL5wtCKbhuG2dZ7P0TX9y9ZbC6N-ejF1DtGRwPcH9AMWp6BIu3_JzopwJs2lkCQWcTPQd2ehXj-SW1chG8HnGxjrCgPZBnFF5hfSBEg/s320/FB_IMG_1707221260038.jpg" width="241" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As far as the house goes... we are going to have the bathrooms updated before listing it again. A couple of months later, the group fell to the wayside because the President and VP didn't want to continue. It was dormant for a few years. 10 1/2 years ago, business owners wanted to resurrect the organization. I was the only remaining officer still in the area, and was the only one on the signature card for the bank account. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We were able to re-group and I retained my position of Secretary. One President served 2 years, the next served 1 1/2 years. Not long before his term ended, our Treasurer unexpectedly passed away. One the President left, I was the only officer. I had a volunteer help with the treasury. Finally, I was able to encourage the right people to step forward and serve as full-time Treasurer and Secretary, and I became President (officially). About half-way through 2022, I stated that I could not serve any longer. I had my own business to attend to with my sister. The crickets didn't even chirp. I got blank stares in return... Then, in September, Dad passed away. I said at the next meeting that I REALLY couldn't do it any longer and needed a Nominating Committee to find candidates. FINALLY a few people stepped forward and volunteered for that committee. As a result, there were nominations for officers and a new Board of Directors was elected that November. I would remain on the Board as Past President per the By-laws. I was good with that. Today officially marks the last day of my time on the Board of Directors of the Pendleton Area Business Association. I am ready to let go... and I am grateful to those who are taking the leadership of our organization on. I will remain an active Member at Large.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">At our Christmas Party, they presented me with this award, which they named after me! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I am beyond honored!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My wish for all is that 2024 have fewer obstacles and more joyous moments.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /> <p></p>Higgins Design Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05536747607468461664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2916566795731779468.post-67961664544879868542023-10-27T14:08:00.003-04:002023-10-27T14:44:33.732-04:00Busy creating for Mistletoe MarketI've been busy creating stock for Mistletoe Market. The show is in 1 week. The creative flow has been difficult at times because I need to clean and put everything away every time I leave the house for more than 10 minutes, just in case someone wants to view the house.

I only ended up making 6 gnomes, but it was so restorative to my peace of mind. I was house & dog-sitting over the weekend so I couldn't spend the whole day creating, but those few gnomes made a LOT of difference!

The house should be listed by tomorrow.
I don't have the kind of attachment to this house as I did to the house I spent most of my growing-up years in. Although, I have lived in this one longer. This was a safe place to land when my world was turning upside down. There are memories of my looking for a job. Memories of my marriage breaking up. Those years of Mom in cancer treatment (as well as all the wonderful years in between). Memories of finding Dad after he died. Memories of the emotional struggles I went through in the 23 1/2 years living there. There has been quite a bit of anxiety laden times during the cleaning and packing.
I am more than ready for a new, fresh life in a new-to-me home... wherever that may be.Higgins Design Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05536747607468461664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2916566795731779468.post-78611273059213523872023-04-26T13:06:00.006-04:002023-04-26T13:11:15.570-04:00Still packing...I can fully understand why moving is often on the list of most stressful activities. (The Top 5 Most Stressful Life Events: 1. Death of a loved one, 2. Divorce, 3. Moving, 4. Major illness or injury, 5. Job loss.) I am STILL packing! I will work for hours, fill boxes and turn around to see that it appears I still have the same amount to go. FRUSTRATING! On the up side, I did fill out my application for Mistletoe Market. Again, I won't know for sure I'm in until the jury makes their decisions. I am eager to get the house sold, move to a new-to-me home and get creating! I miss it so much!Higgins Design Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05536747607468461664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2916566795731779468.post-66077176049894148222023-02-22T14:15:00.001-05:002023-02-22T14:15:25.768-05:00Moving on to the next holiday gnome...<p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX14qbCq27CN2Tkj47CUFYC7mVeAJeyf4KNCjypUlIYtYBFc31fTU_dT_00mwfqDBinCY6x5l9GKiYCilGRw9OY93-TFJjYidzc5YSoxiSpItz7-szfBa3QwxPAATXv6nCeoPFX6vEMvdeVyxe_dpXVA9YwSbT6muy4VXduwrEKv_L2b-lSdgG1FIZ/s1480/20230219_111552.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1480" data-original-width="1403" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX14qbCq27CN2Tkj47CUFYC7mVeAJeyf4KNCjypUlIYtYBFc31fTU_dT_00mwfqDBinCY6x5l9GKiYCilGRw9OY93-TFJjYidzc5YSoxiSpItz7-szfBa3QwxPAATXv6nCeoPFX6vEMvdeVyxe_dpXVA9YwSbT6muy4VXduwrEKv_L2b-lSdgG1FIZ/s320/20230219_111552.jpg" width="303" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">2023 Limited Edition Easter Gnome</td></tr></tbody></table>I have the prototype finished and started taking orders on Sunday. Fast-forward to the early 1990's when I was working for Wally. The Met contacted Wally again to re-work the mold and create a master (mother) mold (used to create more working molds). Wally was semi-retired at the time and passed the project along to me. In the background of this OLD Polaroid photo is William and the old mold with the new mold. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">At the time, the reproductions were being made in NY by a studio. Well, they have a thing of looking for house hippos. It stems from a Canadian tv commercial. William is now my House Hippo! But, I wanted to slightly re-name him to reflect my history with him better.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">When I was in college, my dad was one of the academic advisors for one of the fraternities. My father-in-law's first name was Wally. My hippo will be known as WA Baby, as an homage to both my dad and my father-in-law.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0_9n0q581bi7Qk1ojLp2hnaO0WyeepgD7EGl3lUU8d0liPRM6hyV9Y5I7-12-xZ6OxiJAATRL_lbv5c-VFx2FpAkLoR5D2d8mb-U1oVOnzBrxnYo7sME0AXpPGXhoKsJbNQxN-xOYBfuc00L1RMKi9-YXXcdCNgmRzd_flWtJrw74dO47nRU6Vfg_/s1920/Screenshot_20210425-141341_Chrome.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1920" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0_9n0q581bi7Qk1ojLp2hnaO0WyeepgD7EGl3lUU8d0liPRM6hyV9Y5I7-12-xZ6OxiJAATRL_lbv5c-VFx2FpAkLoR5D2d8mb-U1oVOnzBrxnYo7sME0AXpPGXhoKsJbNQxN-xOYBfuc00L1RMKi9-YXXcdCNgmRzd_flWtJrw74dO47nRU6Vfg_/s320/Screenshot_20210425-141341_Chrome.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p></p>Higgins Design Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05536747607468461664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2916566795731779468.post-63683466317836571822023-01-07T14:39:00.004-05:002023-01-07T14:41:57.388-05:00Preparing for the first Limited Edition of 2023<p> Last year, about this time, I decided to create some Limited Edition Gnomes for Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, and Easter. I made 12 of each. I had NO idea that they would be so popular! I had so many requests afterward that I decided in the future I would take pre-orders for any of the Limited Edition pieces. It has worked well.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSKYKCYagiZlxoh1saBODL5AIRLCoH6LugdpEoKUcTzRmkhOSZPuYKpCugJi-zDe96CZ4TVcD3osIMtFi8xadoYpOu3TjErSjgzheNRGxWJ3mtLef6GGVqbsjXEDPue-z-TNORd8svmbnvK3UNv9xmYefksjXpsg_pV7FOPjrxHuG0nZ7AGUMrWf4C/s3264/20230106_083935.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3264" data-original-width="2448" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSKYKCYagiZlxoh1saBODL5AIRLCoH6LugdpEoKUcTzRmkhOSZPuYKpCugJi-zDe96CZ4TVcD3osIMtFi8xadoYpOu3TjErSjgzheNRGxWJ3mtLef6GGVqbsjXEDPue-z-TNORd8svmbnvK3UNv9xmYefksjXpsg_pV7FOPjrxHuG0nZ7AGUMrWf4C/s320/20230106_083935.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I am now working on the Limited Edition Valentine Gnomes for 2023. Not everyone does facebook, I totally understand that.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I will post a photo of them once they are finished. Unfortunately, 2 days later I tested positive for COVID and was unable to create anything more before Christmas. I just did not have the energu or motivation to work on things. Once I started to feel better, I was able to finish glazing some things that were ready and then fire them and add gold afterward. I did get one more shipment out just before Christmas. (The recipient knew it was late getting out and they were OK with it.)</p><p>I am hoping to get some things made this week, but they won't be finished until after 2023 rolls in. I am feeling a LOT better, but the cold weather (unseasonably cold for SC) and drying time will keep me from finishing all before Sunday morning.</p><p>I made over 700 pieces of Gnomes and Friends in 2022. WOW! And there are not a whole lot of them remaining in my posession. THANK YOU ALL! </p><p>Here's to a 2023 that doesn't throw us those cruve balls and is void of anything but good things. (I know, life isn't that way, but one can hope, can't they???)</p>Higgins Design Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05536747607468461664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2916566795731779468.post-65337035700453949762022-11-30T11:21:00.006-05:002022-11-30T11:21:46.226-05:00Still creating for the holidays!<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxaobcZUxyGe4HsHRw_LfseH3Pk7dCT9bJZBfVGrjafGrZlI5HzaqC4JpgkB6c-NxkscvdBXQ24w61HHr2BIUOixEoi5QpWQelx7bucIsNgMWk8v0cKUk2SDbc2n0iMyqpcoMyOba9BN9ptq3XBgzhH_Y7Wo9xYuaRtI7aby8uptr_D0M3FvlE1XaF/s3693/IMG_20221129_053842883_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2564" data-original-width="3693" height="222" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxaobcZUxyGe4HsHRw_LfseH3Pk7dCT9bJZBfVGrjafGrZlI5HzaqC4JpgkB6c-NxkscvdBXQ24w61HHr2BIUOixEoi5QpWQelx7bucIsNgMWk8v0cKUk2SDbc2n0iMyqpcoMyOba9BN9ptq3XBgzhH_Y7Wo9xYuaRtI7aby8uptr_D0M3FvlE1XaF/s320/IMG_20221129_053842883_HDR.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I am working on filling a few special orders and also building stock.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It is the busy season at work (retail does that) and my energy in the evenings isn't always there. It is amazing how many gnomes, snowmen, etc. fit into one of my cases compared to mugs and coffee pots...</p><p>I'm ready. I'm looking forward to this wonderful show.</p>Higgins Design Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05536747607468461664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2916566795731779468.post-23109484934944026612022-10-28T12:39:00.003-04:002022-10-28T12:43:35.340-04:00Home Stretch<p> Mistletoe Market at the Anderson County Museum is one week from today! It was difficult to jump back in, but I know it was the right thing to do, and putting it off was not in my best interest.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The 40 in this limited edition are all spoken for, and are all shaped. I have bisque fired half of them, the others are drying. I will begin glazing this week.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I also will be making some commemorative pieces for my family. When Mom was half way through her treatments in 2000, a tree was dedicated in her honor at the SC Botanical Garden in Clemson. At the time of her passing in 2011, we took a few tablespoons of her ashes (at Dad's request) and sprinkled them at the base of the tree. we did the same with a small amount of Dad's ashes last week. We also took a few snippets of leaves from this gorgeous Japanese Maple. I will impress them into clay and make ornaments for my siblings. I will share photos when I get them started.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Below is the labor of love my family contributed to and my nephew's wife put together for the funeral. He will be missed but we all must continue on with life.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6YzweIpizSJgqI9sF-EMabl3QRvdS7xd7A9xFPzBocIZWcqr5vynFLMfzwut_tZvSGJCIArWe7BmES5kozBJRjMNvNzbtBI0fXJSG-TsL2VMjRvnwpaODYJCINXCiKfslCWU4fAP1671gCTQlFUkJVEJZ32yCu0989QBcDw3ftf3XXUKAvodfe4Sp/s4000/IMG_20220918_092227493_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="3000" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6YzweIpizSJgqI9sF-EMabl3QRvdS7xd7A9xFPzBocIZWcqr5vynFLMfzwut_tZvSGJCIArWe7BmES5kozBJRjMNvNzbtBI0fXJSG-TsL2VMjRvnwpaODYJCINXCiKfslCWU4fAP1671gCTQlFUkJVEJZ32yCu0989QBcDw3ftf3XXUKAvodfe4Sp/s320/IMG_20220918_092227493_HDR.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p></p>Higgins Design Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05536747607468461664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2916566795731779468.post-3115908219048012872022-09-14T14:47:00.005-04:002022-09-14T15:22:33.365-04:00Goodbye Dad<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ3X62wKRDufbyuqvcHJYRmrR85Xd5Ijz966set1kfj80i1ZqcI1nrv770UGJq0VtlwLhwT7XcmTZhy2b_x1fUMGiSnjO2KxwYZHG7wVW4G45iqeF5vj5loNUB1JJs_nDtWIJeUink66P0yE4nQUPSLGS8r2C-Dbd0KmjUMmjqKB0tEkDIyrgqJWJP/s1080/FB_IMG_1662693844529.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ3X62wKRDufbyuqvcHJYRmrR85Xd5Ijz966set1kfj80i1ZqcI1nrv770UGJq0VtlwLhwT7XcmTZhy2b_x1fUMGiSnjO2KxwYZHG7wVW4G45iqeF5vj5loNUB1JJs_nDtWIJeUink66P0yE4nQUPSLGS8r2C-Dbd0KmjUMmjqKB0tEkDIyrgqJWJP/s320/FB_IMG_1662693844529.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Last Wednesday was a gorgeous day outside. The day progressed as any normal Wednesday, I did the grocery shopping (so Dad could take advantage of the Senior Discount), Dad helped me put things away, and our day moved on as usual, I went to work and Dad stopped in twice that day to have a cup of coffee, and we had a nice turkey dinner. After dinner, I gave him his evening eye drop and as I headed into the other room to cut some things for customers on the computerized cutter, he said he was headed out to the shed to do his exercises. (He had his knee re-replaced several years ago, and he still had difficulties with it. He often did stretching exercises he learned at the physical therapist. He had set-up an exercize spot in his former wood shop.) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The cutter is a noisy machine and I cannot always hear things going on elsewhere in the house. When I was finished, I went into my room. I could hear the tv on in the sunroom, as is normal. I fell asleep early that evening with my tv still on. I awoke around 1:00 am to use the bathroom and noticed the light over the stove still on. He would periodically forget to turn it off as he went to bed.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">In the morning, I went out to the kitchen to get my breakfast. Dad was not up yet, but once in a while he would sleep in. I then went out to the sunroom to open the blinds and that is when I saw his rollator. He used the rollator at night so if he needed to go to the bathroom, it was steadier for a sleepy person who is a bit unsteady on their feet. As soon as I saw that it was still in the sunroom, I started franitcally calling his name. I looked in his bedroom and the bathroom. He was nowhere in the house. I ran out the door and found him lying on the ground at the door to the shed. He was not breathing.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My next instinct was to call my sister, who lives a couple of blocks away. She arrived and called 911. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Thankfully the coroner said that he had had a heart attack and was deceased prior to falling. That helped my mind a little, knowing that although his body, unbeknownst to me, was out there all night long, he was not suffering. He had not suffered at all. His death was instant.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My world is turned upside down. I don't know how I am going to make ends meet. I don't know how the house will be once all of my siblings have gone to their respective homes. The funeral is tomorrow and the last of the out-of-town family leaves Sunday. </div><br /><p></p>Higgins Design Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05536747607468461664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2916566795731779468.post-29620106148738115252022-08-11T11:18:00.000-04:002022-08-11T11:18:06.071-04:00A New Limited Edition Gnome<p> <br /><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The Autumn/Halloween Limited Edition Gnome is ready for pre-orders.
