Monday morning

After a very rainy end to last week and a very windy Sunday, I sure am glad it is suppossed to be nice today.
I went to pick out semi-precious stone and pearl beads yesterday for an upcoming Trunk Show at the store. I had my camera with me and took this photo of one of the many Cherry trees in full bloom.
Think nice weather thoughts for Pendleton for this coming weekend. Spring Jubilee should be wonderful as usual.
I will have my pottery in our store as well as down the street in a storefront being rented for the weekend by another artist.

New Stoneware...

This is what was on the top shelf of the kiln this morning... I think it looks fantastic!

Those are the first stoneware coffee pots. I've got lids glazed in the Chocolate and the Kiwi to start... other colors to come...

Opening the kiln is like Christmas morning every time!

Challenged by color

This past month we had a challenge for the Hole in The Bead Gang, it was due today. And, although I had a whole month to come up with something and make it, I did my usual, and made it this afternoon.
The challenge was a color challenge. We had to work with Yellow, Orange and/or Black. Since Yellow and Orange do not fall in my usual color palette, I decided to go the Black route. I had found this bead a friend gave me and I had a strand of 6mm round black beads, to which I added Copper (my Orange) and voila! To set it off, I covered an old jewelry gift box from JCP with yellow and orange paper and ribbon with copper ink accents.
OK, my photo isn't the greatest, but at least I met the challenge and am posting to show you I did it.
For next month the challenge is to make something monochromatic.

Rainy Saturday

It is a beautiful rainy Saturday here in Pendleton. Beautiful you ask... yes, we have had drought conditions so long that Lake Hartwell is many feet below full pond. Although rain is a nuisance and makes even running errands a pain, we will not complain that a steady soaking rain is here today.
Enjoy your day!

mental ramblings

My brain rambles sometimes and I cannot always follow where it is going.
I wanted to post, but cannot remember what it was I wanted to post about. Age, mental exhaustion, whatever...
The photo is of an Art Clay Silver piece I made while teaching a class last Fall. I did not make the dichroic fused glass piece, but I made the silver setting.
I have to set aside my new decorating ideas I had for the pottery and just produce! We have Historic Pendleton's Spring Jubilee coming up in a couple of weeks (the first full weekend of April) and I have Celebrate Clayton coming up the last weekend of April.
I can experiment later...

Sunny Day!

It is a beautiful day in SC!

Here is an un-snowy view of the same clump of daffodils that I took this morning... amazing what a week has done!

Here are the Dwarf Iris I talked about earlier... almost faded.

"It always snows on the daffodils"

That is what my Mom always told us... but we grew up in western NY state! Here is a photo I took this morning of the snow on the daffodils here in SC! Yes, that yellow spot on the right is a daffodil face-down in the mulch, weighed down with the wet snow we got yesterday and last night. There is another on the left side of the photo as well... but with temps in the 40's today, the snow that weighed them down has mostly melted away.
We are lucky, our power was only off for about 6 hours last night. Some people may not get their power back until late Wednesday - and today is only Monday...

His Art teacher says he's talented!

This is DragonBen and his watercolor painting.
His painting was one of 5 chosen from his school to be on exhibit for National Youth Art Month. All of the schools (public, private and home) in Anderson County were displayed at the Anderson Arts Center Warehouse (a gallery).
The opening of the show was yesterday and we went in the rain/snow/sleet mix. There was a wonderful turnout despite the weather.
We are so very proud of DragonBen and his talents.
And I bet he has no school today because of the snow! I have not checked. They are listing colleges on TV right now...
(The title of this post is a modification of the saying on the t-shirts the young artists could buy 'My art teacher says I'm talented'... and they were the only ones who could buy them.)

March is coming in like a lion!

I took this pic just before dinner tonight.
The power is out.
I will post DragonBen's art tomorrow!
(I couldn't photgraph the Dwarf Iris, they were covered with snow!)
